Rain and Daisies

I've always loved wild daisies. They don't grow as rampantly down here as they do farther north. The weather has been foggy and overcast all weekend--not much for photography. I did pick some daisies and posed them in my kitchen window beneath my "bottle curtain".
I did manage to catch a photo of this tiny bee working on one of my oxeye daisies.
We've had lots of rain this weekend. It's welcome, as is was becoming crunchy-dry around here, and even though we have a well-fed sprinkler system, there's nothing like rain to perk a garden up.

This is my crazy season, though. This is the time of year I prefer to spend every available moment planting, weeding, and beautifying my garden. This is the time of year when I don't care what I look like, and most money I spend goes on plants. May is the month when I can finally assess the damage from the harsh winter. It looks like my pygmy date palms (roebelenii) did not make it. My bananas, however, are finally making an appearance. I still don't know if my caladiums are coming back.

I keep hearing thunder, so I probably should post this...

PS--Here's a full picture of my bottle curtain:

Deborah, your "bottle blues" are pretty enough to be a poster or note cards. Really like the photo.

Bu the way, How did you hang the bottles? Looks great.

Thanks, Mya. The bottles have screw-tops on them, which I spray-painted black. Then I poked two holes in each of the tops and looped wire through them. I purchased some old-fashioned metal curtain rings, and my husband mounted a dowel across the window.

The sad part is that Arizona Iced Tea don't put their tea in cobalt blue bottles anymore. I spent a whole summer drinking ginseng tea and wound up with dozens of them.

You are very creative to build that cobalt blue bottle curtain, very pretty!
I was hoping we can get some rain the past weekend, but it did not come. I love the garden after the rain, so fresh and clean, not to mention all those pretty flowers with rain drops on them.

Two of my favorite things....Daisies that brighten up any day and blue bottles. I love your bottle window very much :-)

Lovely blue bottles...my favorites! I like the idea to make a curtain...now that's clever. Your daisies look extra special in the blue bottle on the windowsill. Happy spring;-)

You need to patent your blue curtain! Lovely! We'll have daisies blooming only in June.

Thanks, guys. The bottle curtain was fun to make--never thought to patent it. My kitchen is full of blue bottles. Once people catch wind of you collecting things, they all start contributing more. There is something about daisies and cobalt blue together.

I've lived in places where daisies bloom in May, and places where they bloom in June. Down here it's April. It's funny how the same plant gets different signals to bloom in different areas.

Ami, I'm sorry you guys didn't get any rain this time. Usually we stay dry and you guys get the rain. We just got pounded--I'll try to send some your way.

We will have annual wild 'rain daisies' when the rain comes. It is cloudy and promising now.

I love your blue bottle curtain! And the daisies are so charming! Everything is so dry down here in the PRV right now. I would love to get some rain!

Hi Deborah, the Blue Lady! The white daisies perfectly go with the blue bottles. I wonder why some TV shows or magazines are not featuring your blue collections. They certainly are stunning for their features section. I am sure your caladiums will be okay, they are difficult to kill.

Thanks, everyone. If any of you decide to create your own bottle curtains, please post pictures of them and let me know. I'd love to see what others come up with.

Andrea, TV show and magazines only seem to feature trendy colors. My cobalt blue is far from trendy right now, as most people seem to be decorating in more subdued colors these days. I ignore trends and use colors I love.

Elephant, the rain daisy sounds like a great flower to have when others close up in wet weather.
